(CHASHITSU) a traditional Japanese tea room
At LAMBERT, we are fortunate to preserve an authentic Japanese tea room (chashitsu) .
It is one of the few remaining in Tokyo today, with only the tatami mats renewed—the wooden beams and earthen walls still carry the depth of time.
Constructed in the years just after World War II, the tea room retains much of its original character even after seven decades.
It embodies the spirit of wabi-sabi in the tea ceremony—the quiet beauty of imperfection and time. Here in the heart of the city, visitors can sense an aesthetic that has been handed down across generations.
At LAMBERT, guests are invited to view this tea room while enjoying their matcha, offering a rare chance to encounter the essence of Japanese culture.
What is a Japanese Tea Room (Chashitsu)?
A chashitsu is a traditional Japanese room designed specifically for the tea ceremony.
Usually built with natural materials such as wood, paper, and clay, it reflects the aesthetics of wabi-sabi—the quiet beauty of simplicity, imperfection, and time.
Unlike a café or tea house, a tea room is not just a place to drink tea, but a space to experience harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility—the core values of Japanese tea culture.
